Who we are

LumenVerse ("we", "our", "us") is an independent digital newsroom operating at lumenverse.app. We publish multilingual news and analysis covering technology, finance, politics, science, and culture in English, Bahasa Indonesia, and German.

Data we collect

We collect two categories of data: data you provide directly, and data collected automatically when you use our site.

Data you provide: If you sign up for our newsletter ("The Daily Verse"), we collect your email address. If you contact us by email, we collect your name, email address, and message content. We do not require account registration to read our content.

Data collected automatically: When you visit lumenverse.app, our servers and third-party services may collect your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, time spent on pages, and the date and time of your visit. This data is used in aggregate to understand how our site is used and to improve performance.

We use cookies — small text files stored in your browser — to operate our site and deliver relevant advertising. Cookies we use include:

Essential cookies: Required for the site to function. These include session identifiers and locale preference cookies. They cannot be disabled without affecting site functionality.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to analyse site usage. GA4 collects data such as pages visited, session duration, device type, and approximate geographic location (country/region level). This data is processed by Google under their privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

We have configured GA4 with IP anonymisation enabled. We do not use analytics data to identify individual users. Analytics data helps us understand which topics our readers value, how they navigate the site, and where technical issues may exist.

Third-party advertising

LumenVerse displays advertising served by Google AdSense and may display advertising from other third-party networks. These advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect data about your visits to our site and other websites in order to serve you relevant advertisements.

Third-party advertising partners include but are not limited to: Google LLC (AdSense/Ad Manager). Each partner operates under its own privacy policy. Google's advertising privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Advertisements displayed on LumenVerse are clearly labelled as advertising and do not influence our editorial content. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers.

How we use your data

We use collected data to: operate and improve lumenverse.app; deliver the newsletter to subscribers; respond to editorial and reader enquiries; monitor site security and prevent abuse; measure the reach and impact of our journalism; and serve contextually or interest-based advertising through third-party networks.

We do not use your data to build individual profiles for sale, to engage in automated decision-making with legal effects, or to target you with political advertising.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with: (1) service providers necessary to operate our site (hosting, CDN, analytics, email delivery) under data processing agreements; (2) advertising partners as described above under your consent; (3) law enforcement or regulatory bodies when legally required.

Our service providers may be located outside your country of residence. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including: the right to access data we hold about you; the right to correct inaccurate data; the right to request deletion of your data; the right to object to or restrict processing; and the right to data portability.

If you are in the European Union, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Data retention

We retain newsletter subscriber email addresses until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for a maximum of 90 days. Analytics data is retained for 14 months in Google Analytics before automatic deletion.

Email correspondence is retained for up to 2 years for editorial and legal record purposes.

Children's privacy

LumenVerse is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that a child has provided personal data, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
